Rules I live by

Dear Timothée,
Here is a list of rules that I advise you to follow to stay yourself.
Yours truly,
Your former you
  • Balance is everything.
  • Be yourself. Always. In any circumstance.
  • Enjoy the moment.
  • Devote time to other people. Trust, listen and care about them.
  • Ask others for help. People love helping each other. By asking someone, you not only get an answer, but you also give somebody a chance to do something good.
  • Show your weaknesses. It gives others the opportunity to help or coach you.
  • There isn’t a thing that isn’t worth learning.
  • Learn by doing. No words can accurately describe an experience in a better way than a personal experience.
  • The only purpose of life is to be happy. And happiness is contagious.
  • Do not tell others what they should do. If they ask for advice, it’s better to answer by telling your own story and letting them draw their own conclusions for their own situation. It reminds them that the choice is theirs.
  • Do not try to impress other people. This is just ridiculous.
  • Do not try to be perfect. First, it’s impossible. Second, it suggests that there is a model towards with you can tend to. But there is no model for being yourself.
  • Do not care about what other people think about you.
  • Be careful about socially-induced desires, fear of the future or fear of death.
  • Cultivate friendship.
  • Listen to kids.
  • Take time to care of yourself, body and mind.
  • You don’t own anything. You are a child of Earth.
  • Pick up trash that’s on the floor and put it into the trash can.
  • Always wonder why you are doing something.
  • Question everything.
  • Do things that are fun.
  • Do things that are challenging.
  • Do things that make people laugh.
  • Never browse the Internet or check my phone without a clear objective in mind.
  • Pay attention to your corporal tics. Any time you notice something wrong, try and capture what you’re thinking about right now that makes you anxious. The problem in question is often worth focusing on.
  • Review and update this list from time to time.
